Wave Characteristics of SSC Associated Magnetic Pulsations (Psc)

Kuwashima, M.

Abstract

Observational results from a latitudinal array of ground-based magnetometer stations extending from L〜6 to L〜1.5 indicate that the damped-type magnetic oscillations excited by storm sudden commencement (SSC) of various periods occur simultaneously; longer periods (〜300sec) in high latitudes and shorter periods (30sec) in low latitudes. From a more detailed study based on the observation in the auroal region, it is suggested that there exist the decoupled magneto-hydrodynamic (MHD) oscillation of individual magnetic shell associated with SSC.
